A client had aproached me to assist in the design of their next tattoo. The tattoo was to be positioned around the client's ankle and in the theme of Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

The client already had a clear idea of what they wanted (see the sketches below). The challenge was to find a compromise between the high level of detail and the size of the tattoo. Essentially, some details had to be removed as they would have been too small for any tattoo artist to ink.

After consulting with the tattoo artist that the client was going with, we were able to determine which details could be kept. the initial design was printing out in a 1:1 scale and shown to the artist, who circled the details that needed to either be enlarged or removed. In the end, the design was able to retain all the core elements that represented each character from Alice in Wonderland.
