My Experience

Hi, I’m Josh!
I am a recent gaduate from ECU, with a bachelor of design. Now, I work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator helping to actualise clients' visions.
I have 3 years’ experience in graphic design including logos, business cards, websites and 2D animation. I am proficient in the use of many different software programs such as Microsoft office, Adobe suite; photoshop, illustrator, InDesign and adobe animate and proficient in other mediums such as clay, inks, and acrylics. I have a good understanding of web site design and experience with HTML, CSS coding, developing and maintaining websites. My experience in administrative tasks includes creation of spread sheets, invoice management and writing design projects plans and client liaison.

My Design Approach

Though my approach may vary in accordance to the requirements of each project, There are still a few steps in my design process that remain a constant.

Client/Designer Meeting
This stage helps to evaluate whether or not my services would effectively solve the problem. Sometimes the best solutions might not require a physical design.

Research
No matter what the assignment, Thorough research is crucial in developing an effective design. It is so important, infact, that I am constantly updating and referring to my research as I progress through the design process.

Ideation
Based on initial research conducted at the beginning of the assignment, I begin to brainstorm a range of potential solutions to the client's problem. These are then evaluated and the most promising ideas are carried through to the next stage.

Concept Development
From here the ideas with the most promise are fleshed out and I begin to trial how to best execute them. This is where I can start to see which of these ideas should be chosen for the final product.

Refinement
By this stage, the client and I have settled on a final solution for the design problem. This solution gets polished and refined to the client's liking and is now ready to fulfill the needs of the client.

Client/Designer Relations

An example of client liaison is when I was contracted to design a logo for a Swan Valley Sisters local café in Swan Valley, I sent through detailed progress reports; to which they would reply with various design suggestions and queries like changes to colours, patterns and font variations. Whilst I’m always happy to accommodate these changes I still made recommendations around the design choices with sound reasoning including visual impact, marketing and branding. On completion of the logo, they had a design that were very pleased with and this branding has now grown in one of the best organic/bio-dynamic Cafe/Produce Store.

I take pride in my work and enjoy working with clients and utilising my skills and expertise to assist in making their goals a reality.
